Takeaways from Webinar on Kava Coalition’s cGMP Vendors List

As part of the Kava Coalition’s work to improve product safety, incentivize vendors to establish and maintain GMP certified facilities, and increase transparency and credibility within the kava industry, the Kava Coalition and Allay Consulting hosted a free 45-minute webinar on June 18 introducing the Kava Coalition cGMP Approved Vendors List.

See the slides below for additional details about cGMP certification.

cGMP refers to current Good Manufacturing Processes as defined by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The KC’s Douglas La Rose and Allay Consultings Kim Anzarut discussed the step-by-step process for kava vendors to certify their physical facilities—and the benefits of proactive safety certification.

From first conducting a “gap analysis” of a facility, to choosing a certifying auditor, to training staff, to maintaining all documentation, to performing ongoing audits—they covered common details, expectations, and benefits involved in the cost- and time-intensive process, one of the best risk-mitigation tools in the food-and-beverage industry.

The cGMP certification can also be part of vendors’ marketing. The KC provides a consumer-facing badge for product labels and advertising, and the certification warrants promotion via press release, on vendors’ websites, their social media, and other mediums.
